There’s about an inch of snow on the ground, finally. Though nothing is very frozen. It’s a wet snow, sloppy and heavy. I’m not sure if I kept hearing it fall last night or imagined it. Something hit the side of the house and rang the lamp next to my bed like a church bell. I woke up three times, each time not sure who or what was wake. Or if I was in the same place I had started.

I think a lot about the systems we live in. The one that makes me drive to work in the snow, pay my taxes on time, drive 45 minutes to a doctor, eat food imported from Mexico, spend 5-figures on education, sit on my phone for 2+ hours, or fly 10 hours to see a friend.

I often think about what we actually need and what the future might hold for our civilization.

And I’m just a strange girl who wants everything to be a little easier. Because if it’s hard for me, it has to be extra hard for other people. I have a lot of things going for me, but I don’t think you should have to. I don’t think you should have to have a college degree or some savings to live securely in this country (and those don’t even really help).

I don’t think you should have to work until you die. That is so far from what we’re here for.

Since I can remember, I’ve seen this vision of only what I can describe as an intentional community. In my version, it’s a model of shared equity, it’s a vision of close design, of reconnecting with Mother Earth, of being largely fully self-sustaining, and run like a damn Navy ship.

Maybe it feels like a hippy farm dream—and it should live like that—but it should run like a Fortune 50. I think the only way this thing works is if it’s made into and operated like a financial powerhouse, and most farms can never get there.

But I think that’s really the key.

If you can change the financial design of the way we live and work, I think you've got it.

I think you have safety and security for generations. I think you have a model that can stand the test of political winds. I think you have something sustainable. And when you’re doing and creating everything yourselves, well, the risk of inflation, tariffs, and bad trade agreements can be managed.

And we can create beautiful, healthy lives, living and working in community.

And I’m not saying anything that revolutionary. This has been tried GLOBALLY for years. Portugal has some of the BEST models for intentional community.
